This looks strangely like Africa. 

It’s supposed to look like Africa.

The caption “We only see the things on the surface” applies to the Northern countries in Africa. These countries “above the surface” are relatively the most developed countries in Africa. It also looks like an island, so the same way that we only pay attention to islands on an ocean, those that are undeveloped we do not “see”. 

This is in the perspective of Americans - those not in Africa. It’s negative because the color sets a low mood, and it tries to make us realize what the other countries are going through. With all the war and news coming from Africa, it also triggers the negativity in recognizing the other Nations.
